It began as it always does. Hours of groundwork, planning, list formulation, developing operational schemes that unfold over time and morph into completed winter projects. The checklists trace progress and signify at some point that we are as prepared as we will be for more cruising about the Salish Sea. The next operational schemes will unfold as they always do… in exotic places. And that, as you’ve learned by now, if you’ve the perseverance and stamina to peruse previous blog posts… is what cruising is all about: Performing repairs in exotic places…
This year’s list of completions:
- Converting analog engine sensor reading to digital readouts on our multi function displays
- Replace all coolant and engine oil pressure sensors with Faria sensors
- Pull new wiring for new tachometers
- Pull new 8 gauge wiring to the pilothouse to provide cleaner power source
- Install new start batteries for generators and engine
- Install analog to digital converter (Actisense EMU-1)
- Replace all fuel filters on main engines, gen sets and skiff motor.
- Update all distress flare kits with new flares including a new electric “flare” for the skiff.
- Terminal clean Dickinson stove and replace fuel filter
- Replace all running zincs
- Replace stripped master shower control
- Update all Simrad / Garmin / TZ navionic charts
- Replace propane locker “guts”
- Send Bimini out for clean and repair.
- Paint lower stray strakes, both sides.
- Resupply all ships stores
- Top off fuel
- Procure a 6 month supply of all needed meds. (Sub note: I’m firing my current pharmacy. They screwed up several times during that process and turned what should have been an easy phone call into a miasma…)
We departed Ludlow on June 1st and made our way across the Strait directly to Garrison Bay where we met our friends Steve and Janice for a very nice spaghetti dinner. We celebrated with vanilla ice cream and oreo cookies. There was wine available…
in the morning we made our way out to Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island, a favorite place to spend time. The main draw: hiking, kayaking, SUPing, and just… sitting at anchor, contemplating whatever flits through the canyons of our minds…
