Thar Be Dragons A Lurking Round Here

18 degrees. Our first winter cold snap. Great Northern fancied sprouting teeth. Dragons teeth. Impressive, eh?
I recall whispering in her ear a bit ago under the influence of a nice cab and a comfortable meal… how impressed I am with her girth, length and seaworthiness. I think she took it to heart and fashioned baleen to go with her Warrior Princess Dragon teeth. Impressive, eh?
Now here’s an odd duck… er set of Great Blue Heron footprints on the dock. Interesting. So the great bird goes for a midnight walkabout. Her weight compresses the snow under her feet and because the dock, floating in 43 degree salt water is warmer than the air… the compressed snow slightly melts and as more snow accumulates it hides the frozen footprints. This morning one of our dock workers, a patient man, used a leaf blower to remove some of the snow from the dock to make it safer for transit. That effort left the frozen footprints on the dock for all to gaze upon in wonderment… Yes it is cold. But… without the cold, fanciful footprints such as these won’t form. There always is a bright side…
Baby it’s cold outside! But it is toasty inside. Our Dickinson Atlantic stove makes short work of the cold. It is the kind of stove found on fish boats that ply the cold Northern waters of the Northwest and Alaska. The fishers get to the boat, light the stove, and it stays lit providing heat, and a cooking platform until they get back to port. Even then they are reluctant to turn it off…
And if the stove is not enough to keep us warm inside, Les’s mad knitting skills provide warm, soft, take anywhere insulation. Leo is very supportive of her efforts…
Hats and a “work in progress sleeve” that will end up being part of a sweater. The colors are striking. The wool is from alpaca and sheep.
Even while slaving over a hot stove… the knitted wool is… transformational, eh? Gordon Ramsey… eat your heart out!
