It’s Called Rayleigh Scattering… The Science Behind Sunset Colors

Overall, sunlight appears white but as we’ve all been taught, it is composed of many colors. Each color has a different wavelength don’t cha know. When the sun is low on the horizon during sunset, its light must travel through a thicker layer of gas molecules in the atmosphere… which scatters the blue and violet light, leaving the longer wavelengths, red, orange, and yellow more prominent.

Even without such spectacular lighting effects, Poet’s Cove on South Pender Island, BC, is a visually pleasing marina to spend some time at. The hotel sports the luxury of outdoor heated pools and hot tubs in late fall, excellent restaurants and a day spa. We will be here for another day then we will migrate to Sidney Harbor for some provisioning. On Tuesday we are scheduled to have our winter heating system upgraded at Delta Marine.
