Todays Images: 8/31/25. Two Very Different Cruising Grounds.

Live webcam of Avalon, Catalina Island. 8/31/25. Our old cruising grounds….
Live webcam of the Isthmus Mooring Field, Catalina Island. Just South of 4th of July and Cherry Coves… 8/31/25

We leased a buoy in Cat Harbor for a while. Cat Harbor is on the opposite side of the Island from the Isthmus mooring field. It can be reached by following the dirt road airstrip that leads from the Isthmus to the Harbor.

May 1, 2014 Cat Harbor, Catalina Island, one of our favorite locations on the Island
Heron’s Flight, our first powerboat at her mooring in Cat Harbor. June 2014.
We have a thing about Great Blue Herons. Ergo our boat logo…
Apparently herons like it as well… and are using the engine on our dinghy as a perch.
8/31/25. Morning. Long Harbor, Salt Spring Island, Gulf Islands, British Columbia. We’ve been cruising up in the Salish Sea for the past 6 years and never tire of the incredible places to visit and spend time.

A distant glimpse viewed through the lens of the “way back machine”:

August 26th 1960. A picture of me at a small lake the family hiked to for the day. It was located somewhere above the Sol Duc Hot Springs area on the Olympic Peninsula mountain country. Most likely Deer Lake or Mink Lake. I would have been 7 years old at the time and a bit of a fishing fanatic… An introduction to places of solitude started early on in our family…

So there you have it. Contrasts between crowded California anchorages, herons, and serene Salish Sea anchorage. I threw the fishing picture in just for fun…
