Card Carrying Introvert Approved Anchorages

During my professional years I experienced the vagaries of working within the milieu of a sizeable and very complex healthcare organization.  My first experiences there were mainly in the clinical arena of critical care:  surgical, medical and cardiac.  Then through processes somewhat under my control and some a bit beyond my control, I embarked upon the managerial ladder.  So… what’s that got to do with the price of fish?  Nothing more than backstory, eh?

Early on, one of my directors determined that all the managerial staff and most of the clinical staff under her purview should undergo psychological testing.  Why?  To figure out what support processes we all needed?  No.  It was more to determine the psycho-social preferences of our coworkers so we would have a better chance of understanding and meeting their needs whilst being managed.  Enter stage right:  Myers Briggs personality type testing.  Right then I should have returned to the clinical arena.  Anyway… it was interesting, but for the most part a wasteful exercise.  It turned out I was identified as an INFP.  Oh… just keep reading, I’ll get there…  Remember… this is backstory.  INFP stands for Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving.  Which doesn’t matter a whit.  But the “I” designation does:  lntroverted.  I was numerically just on the border of being introverted.  Which also meant that I was on the cusp of being designated as ENFP.  ENFP, meaning Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, Oh my!  Did that make me a willy nilly schizophrenic?  No.  Not really…  But in terms of social interactions I preferred less rather than more…  Early in my career I was an INFP.  Later in my career I was an ENFP… which only means that I am as malleable as a Gumby… Just like all of youse.

Here is the perspective:  This is a prime example of an ENFP paradise.  Hundreds of boats.  Thousands of people to connect with, interact with, play with.

And… This is an INFP paradise.  One boat.  Great Northern.  Our boat in a perfect location.  Which means, that I have clearly reverted to being a very solid INFP!!

Long Harbor, Salt Spring Island. Close to Ganges, but a world apart.
Our view of Long Harbor to the South
Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Outstation way off in the distance from where we are anchored. (snap taken with telephoto) Definitely ENFP centric…
Long Harbor. Our view off the stern.
Sidney, Van Isle, and Westport Marina environs. Plenty of boats scooting about. Enough to satisfy the needs of most personality types.
The view of Haro Strait from Prevost Harbor
Our view of Roche Harbor Marina from the other side of the Bay. We were the only boat over there. The water was so still that you couldn’t distinguish the sky from it’s reflection…
Green Bay, Nelson Island Anchorage
The view of Chatterbox Falls, Princess Louisa Inlet from our mooring buoy. (The dock was full, but we didn’t mind…)
Primo INFP location; for May, eh?
Waiatt Cove, Octopus Islands Provincial Marine Park, Quadra Island
Waiatt Cove. I understand that it can get “crowded”… but in late August we were essentially alone.
7:38PM, August 28th, 2025. Madrona Bay, Salt Spring Island. It is just around the corner from Long Harbor, and close to Ganges. Our little nook has a few anchored boats, but it is a quiet and relaxed location. Just the other side of a few barrier islands in the background lies Ganges, and it is swarming with boats and people and float planes and… We parked here so we could access groceries and have a fine Italian meal at Auntie Pesto. It was worth it. Tomorrow, we plan on moving on to Long Harbor to relax, paddle and perhaps lay some more varnish on our teak rails. Tis the cruising life, eh?
