Sunrise, Sunset and a Sun Dog, Montague, Gulf Islands, British Columbia, July 2025

We are back. And Canada welcomed us with open arms. Well… really we just slid across the border and called Canadian Customs and reported our arrival via NEXUS. We spent the first 4 days in Canada at the Canoe Cove Boatyard whilst Raven Marine, an indigenous ownership company sanded and painted Great Northern’s lovely bottom. Oh we know, and she knows that her bottom is bigger than the back of a bus… but it has lovely lines.

Out of her watery element, but quite happy with her new bottom… Willing and ready for new adventures.
Morning light… and our view to the Northeast looking to the Northwest. We are anchored in Montague Harbor ion Galiano Island. The view in the distance is Trincomali Channel.
Towards sunset… a Sun Dog makes a welcome appearance. We were expecting Leo to notice, but he slept through it…
Sunset… 9:08 PM.

We stayed at Montague Friday afternoon after our launch and spent Saturday there as well. On Sunday we decided to move further away from the Strait of Georgia as she was kicking up her heels and creating some blustery conditions. Off to Genoa Bay for a bit… then… who knows. South to Todd Inlet and Butchart Gardens or North to Bergoyne Bay, Thetis Island, Ladysmith, or? Wind, weather, currents, tides and available anchorages will be the deciding factors.
