Continuation on Theme: 2024 Cruising Notes

Reid Harbor: 7/14/24 to whenever we leave to cross the US / Canadian border to continue our British Columbia explorations…

After spending a couple of days in Friday Harbor playing hunter / gatherers, tourists and cruisers we are again anchored in Reid Harbor.  Prevost and Reid Harbors on Stuart Island are favorites of ours in the San Juans. The both offer relative seclusion, Prevost being a bit more on the seclusion side of the equation. Both offer safe anchorage, excellent hiking, with the added benefit of being great locations to hang out before crossing the border into Canada.

Our favorite hikes are from the Stuart Island State Park for a 6.2 mile jaunt out to the Turn Point Lighthouse and back, or from the Prevost Harbor community dock for A 3.5 mile hike to the lighthouse and back. Follow the links below to review past blog posts for both anchorages and sights that can be seen on Stuart Island. I believe the URL links to be safe. They only refer to URLs within my WordPress blog post account and include pictures and descriptions of past explorations of Stuart Island. Enjoy…

Yesterday we did the 6.2 mile hike. Today we are going for a reprise. It’s that good a hike. After that… its whatever we determine to be the best next cruising steps based on weather, tides, currents We also need to reduce what fresh fruits and vegetables we have on board that might not be viewed favorably by Canadian Customs. We might need to reduce our wine stores as well. We currently have one or two bottles to many to cross the border with. No worries on either account.

On another far fetched aside… I was reading through my first blog post. I thought I’d re-share it, “The Beginning, 2/1/19”: https://wordpress.com/post/boatingongreatnorthern.org/3
