Shroom of the Day:

Quite common, a Lycoperdon perlatum (or L. pyriform). Whatever… by any other name it is a puffball. Now to be clear on this… Lycopoerdon in Greek means “wolf fart”. So there. These start out a nice whitish color and brownify over time. Eventually a small bump appears on the top and… as it matures the bump, an “apical pore” opens up and the shroom farts out its bevy of spores. Elegant solution, eh? Nothing like having farting shrooms in the countryside… Excellent topic for small talk around the dinner table… when the usual topics have been covered…
